The installation of biometrics systems in central Indian government offices has resulted in employees spending more time in their workplace.
Since the AADHAR-Enabled Bio-metric Attendance System (AEBAS) was installed in government offices across the country three months ago close to 50,000 central government employees has boosted their overall “presence time” by an average by 20 minutes daily.
“In the three months since the system began functioning, the average gain per employee of 20 minutes a day works out to an additional workforce of almost 1,900 employees every day,” says an official.
Considering the average “in time” of 9:28am and the “out time” of 5:46pm it is expected that the average presence time will further rise by another 15-20 minutes when biometric marking becomes mandatory in all government offices.
On 1 January 2015 around 31% of staff marked their attendance before the office start time of 9am and 56% showed up between 9am and 10am. Just 5% marked attendance after 11 am.
Currently, a total of 382 organisations are part of Government’s biometric attendance system, which will eventually be implemented across all central government offices.
