IP camera supplier D-Link has unveiled the world’s first Power over Ethernet (PoE) network switches with ONVIF support.
What is it?
Designed for video IP surveillance the DGS-1100 MP/MPP Series high PoE power budget smart switches are the first in the market with ONVIF support. The new DGS-1100 MP/MPP Series Gigabit Smart Managed Surveillance PoE+ Switches dramatically simplify the installation and management of IP CCTV systems, according to D-Link, which manufactures networking equipment.
Features
Support from ONVIF – a forum through which the industry establishes common, open standards to foster interoperability between IP security systems – means the DGS-1100 MP/MPP Series ethernet switches automatically recognise both D-Link and third-party IP cameras, network video recorders (NVRs) and other IP devices like access control systems
Automatic device recognition via ONVIF means installation teams just plug network cables into network cameras and other components and connect cables to the smart switch – the system’s elements will then appear in the switch’s web interface
Web interface shares real-time information from the surveillance network such as surveillance topology, device status, PoE consumption data and network bandwidth usage
Full control over PoE ports means cameras can be configured and managed at the click of a mouse – for instance to set schedules for camera operation or to restart a device
Supporting networks in at all levels – small and medium-sized businesses plus enterprise level – conventional networking control panel gives fine-grained control of all networking options
6 KV surge protection, available with various power budgets and supports high powered PoE standards for maximum flexibility and simplified networks

What D-Link says
“With security a critical concern for businesses, the demand for IP-based surveillance is growing due to its ease of integration with other systems,” says Paul Routledge, country manager for UK and Ireland.
“The introduction of the DGS-1100 MP/MPP switches means that a security system installer can confidently plug and play complete IP surveillance systems, without needing to ‘deep dive’ into layers of networking configuration.
“With the move to PoE eliminating the need for power cabling, and the simplification that our unique implementation of ONVIF offers, professional CCTV installation is entering a new age of speed and simplicity.”
Auto-surveillance VLAN function auto-creates bandwidth-protected virtual network for video for high-quality real-time video without undermining transmission of conventional network data. DGS-1100 MP/MPP Series Switches can therefore serve double duty, supporting surveillance system without compromising high speed connectivity for internet use and other business applications.
