Genetec is now among the world’s top five players in the ANPR technology for surveillance applications space, according to a report by IHS Markit.
The Canada-headquartered company has climbed from 10th place in 2016 to 4th place in this $453m market, which also includes ANPR for access control, travel time information, parking time management, tolling and law enforcement.
The“ANPR and Detector Sensors Report – 2018 also reveals that Genetec has jumped to second place in the Americas region – up from seventh in 2016 – growing its market share to 9.1%.
Genetec, which develops open-platform software, hardware and cloud-based services for the physical security and public safety sectors, also rose to second place for ANPR surveillance equipment in the Americas, with an 11.5% market share.
According to various IHS Markit reports, Genetec is the only security and public safety solutions developer to hold top-10 positions across all physical security sectors including video management software (VMS), access control software, and automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) software.

“Over the last few years, Genetec has put a lot of effort into growing its global ANPR business through substantial R&D investment and increased commercial focus,” said Stephan Kaiser, general manager, AutoVu at Genetec. “This has resulted in our Security Center AutoVu system becoming one of the most advanced ANPR solutions on the market.”
Said Anna Sliwon, a research analyst at IHS: “The global market revenues from sales of intelligent ANPR devices are forecast to reach $800m by 2022 and increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 16.4%.Some of the key factors that will affect market growth include the need for increased privacy and strong data protection and an increased demand for ANPR solutions that integrate with access control technology.”
Genetec adheres to privacy-by-design principles, whereby privacy is prioritised at the very outset of the design and development process. Security Center AutoVu helps users comply with local privacy laws as a default, protecting the identities of vehicles and persons captured in live and recorded video through data encryption and deletion.
Security Center AutoVu can form part of a unified security system that might include access control and video surveillance. Customer can use ANPR events to trigger actions and alarms across their entire security system.
