Genetec launches Security Center 5.8 with new app, health monitoring and enhanced privacy protection

Genetec, which develops unified security, public safety, operations and business intelligence software, is launching a new version of Security Center.

Version 5.8 of the open-architecture platform, which brings together video surveillance, access control, automatic license plate recognition (ALPR), communications and analytics, introduces a raft of new features.

These include customisable live dashboards, enhanced privacy protection, a new map-driven mobile app, system health monitoring, enhanced privacy protections and cybersecurity enhancements.

Customisable live dashboards will display real-time data, like video feeds, alarms, reports and charts. Whether they work in physical security, IT, operations or another team entirely, users can tailor the dashboards to suit their needs using point-and-click tools. They can instantly consolidate data from all Genetec platforms in one screen for a holistic understanding of events and the interrelation of operational metrics.

A new, collaborative mobile app provides operators with complete access to Security Center when they’re off site. It also effectively turns their smartphone into a sensor, letting operators share their location with, send in-app messages to and share live or recorded video through a map-oriented interface with, colleagues with in the control room.

Features will include:

  • Video (live and recorded playback, PTZ controls, bookmarking, time- and event-based reports)
  • Access control (check door status, lock/unlock doors, override schedule, set maintenance mode etc)
  • ALPR (live reads/hits, plate reports, and access hotlists)
  • Interactive maps for better situational awareness
  • Built-in messaging for instantaneous information sharing – including live or recorded video clips and text messages – between operators and personnel in the field

A new Security Score feature assesses compliance with hardening guidelines, firmware availability and updates, password strength and other cybersecurity best practices. Available through the built-in system health dashboard, the Security Score will gauge whether cybersecurity processes are being adhered to. Users thus get a fuller picture of cybersecurity risks, which can then be mitigated accordingly.

KiwiVision Camera Integrity Monitor automatically detects, and alerts administrators to, potential camera position changes, loss of image quality or tampering to help operators take early, proactive action to remedy problems.

Privacy protection has been strengthened to help customers meet GDPR, California Consumer Privacy Act or other data protection compliance obligations. Building on the patented dynamic blurring and encryption technology seen in KiwiVision Privacy Protector (supported by Security Center version 5.7 and above only and free for all Genetec Advantage customers), Security Center will help users define and control who has access to sensitive data and footage, without slowing down investigations and incident response. Users can define strict access procedures like the Four Eyes Principle, avoiding a compromise between protecting the privacy of individuals and an organisation’s physical security.

Security Center version 5.8 is expected to be available in Q2 2019. Genetec has written a Sneak Peek blog while the Genetec Channel Sales Team or a certified member of the Genetec Channel Partner Program are on hand to field enquiries.

Genetec is exhibiting at IFSEC International 2019, taking place 18-20 June 2019 at ExCeL London (stand IF710). Book your free ticket now.
