Honeywell has announced the acquisition of intrusion detection specialist RSI Video Technologies (RSI) in a deal worth around $123m (£87.5m).
Coming just weeks after the acquisition of Xtralis this latest move will strengthen the Fortune 100 company’s presence in the burgeoning video verification field.
In March Honeywell also purchased Movilizer, which created one of the world’s first cloud platforms for field service applications.
It also continues a trend towards consolidation in what remains a comparatively fragmented market for physical-security technologies. Canon has also been highly active, snapping up Milestone Systems in 2014 and Axis Communications in 2015.
RSI, which develops intrusion detection systems under the Videofied brand, develops wireless battery-powered motion detectors with built-in cameras that stream high quality video over the cloud to central monitoring stations and control room operators.
“RSI complements Honeywell’s industry-leading security portfolio, and brings significant new technology and software that provides added value to our security dealers and channel partners,” said Alex Ismail, president and CEO of Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions.
Says David Paja, president of Honeywell Security and Fire. “The industry has been looking for ways to reduce the burden on local law enforcement resources responding to false alarms. RSI helps reduce false alarms by providing cost-effective indoor and outdoor video verification solutions to dealers and central monitoring stations.”
Founded in 2000 RSI has one of the largest installed bases of video-verified alarm systems in the world, with more than one million installations in more than 60 countries. It has approximately 110 employees in France, where it is headquartered, and the US.
RSI will now operate under the auspices of Honeywell Security and Fire, itself a unit of Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions.
