Colin — a great review. I love how you get hands-on with the camera. This is a brilliant refreshing video in the security space. I wonder if you agree with us putting CEO Alexander Fernandes in our top 5 for the #ifsec40?

Thanks Rob. Absolutely agree, Alexander Fernandes belongs on the list. It will be interesting to see if he can catch up to Martin Gren in the next few years, but overall 5th place is a very strong start.

I personally have only presently come across Avigilon. Taking to colleges about this review I have now found that they have already had dealing with Avigilon and have nothing but good things to say. From the quality of the product, image quality and customer service. I think these are one to watch.

Thanks Colin for the review.
Can you pls. dig deeper and show how this camera deals with BLC and how its WDR reacting in high contrast scene, because its WDR = 69 db.

I did an interview with Avigilon’s CEO Alexander Fernandes back in November for our old website which we migrated over to IFSEC Global. You can take a look at it here: Avigilon CEO Alexander Fernandes: Get out of ‘this analogue rut’.
It gives you a pretty good idea of hoe meteoric their rise has been and continues to be.

@Lami S, Thank you for your feedback. I am working on getting another one of these cameras into my warehouse. Once I have it, I will shoot some sample footage of the camera’s BLC performance and post it here.

Thank you Colin for your reply.
I think that DR of this camera is not so wide
because it is 69 db
and 69 = 20 log v1/v2 for base 10
this will give 2800 times the ratio between max and min value of the light level, which is not so high with other cameras DR which go to 120 db which means the ratio = 1000000 times

You are correct with you calculations, but remember 120 db is the DR of a WDR camera. The 5.0-H3-B2 is not a WDR camera, so it’s not really a fair comparison.

Thanks Colin for the information
I did read about a similar camera so I thought it has the same features like the other one. The other one gave also 69 db for 5 MP, but they say if you go to 3 Mp and 30 fps then you will get 100 db, this why I started dissension in linkedin about types of WDR and how they are affected by other parameters. and what I did read about DR for normal camera it is between 50 and 60 db no more if my memory help me to remember the figures.
