Delhi Police will keep a hawk eye on the routes usually taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s convoy in the Capital. According to sources, around 450 high-quality closed circuit cameras will be installed along these routes. The PM Security Wing of Delhi Police will be responsible for monitoring these roads. The decision to beef up the PM’s security comes in the wake of growing threat perception, sources said.
Around “12 specified daily routes” of the prime minister will be under constant watch by the police, they added.
Sources in the security establishment believe that this new development has added a whole new dimension to the PM’s security. “PM Modi is a prime target of the terror outfits,” the officer added. Delhi Police has also begun a practice of having two routes for the PM’s movement. It’s only at the last moment that the route to be taken is decided, to maintain secrecy about his movements.
Sources said, “12 specified daily routes” of the PM that are frequently used include Prime Minister’s residence (7 Race Course Road) to the airport; to BJP headquarters on Ashoka Road; to prime minister’s office in Raisina Hills; to Vigyan Bhawan; to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s Delhi office at Keshav Kunj; to Rajghat; to Parliament; and to Rashtrapati Bhavan.”
Sources say recently a special team was formed under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police (Chanakyapuri sub-division), Sukhraj Katewa, to identify the spots where CCTV cameras have to be installed. A detailed report was prepared by Katewa after identifying all the spots. Later, the report was forwarded to Joint Commissioner of Police (New Delhi range), M.K. Meena. Moreover, it has been decided that a monitoring room will be set up at the Chanakyapuri police station.
The security staff will keep an eye on all the activities at different spots and its surrounding areas from this monitoring facility. Sources further said that the Delhi Police has asked the ECIL to install around 300 fixed cameras in the relevant areas.
They have also asked for 60 cameras that can pan, tilt and zoom, besides 90 cameras with high megapixels. (source : Security Today)
